THE ARTIST

A love for tango passed down, and carried forward.

Originally from Mendoza, Argentina, Albano Goldenberg inherited his love of tango from his grandparents, who organised milongas in their home. At 18, he began formal study in tango, classical and contemporary dance, and theatre.

He moved to Buenos Aires in 2008 to deepen his practice, studying with some of Argentina's most celebrated maestros — including Carlos Gavito, Guillermina Quiroga, Mariano "Chicho" Frúmboli, Gustavo Naveira, and Pablo Verón — before touring Europe, Australia, the United States, and Canada.

In Vancouver, Albano founded Desde Adentro Tango, a contemporary tango-based dance-theatre collective. The work has been presented in Montreal, Mar del Plata, and BC, with productions in 2025 and its first out-of-city premiere in Victoria, BC in 2026.

APPROACH

Circular movement, spiral connection.

A style uniquely developed over time and characterized by circular and spiral movements, based on Julio Balmaceda and Corina de la Rosa's dance technique.

The muscles in our bodies form a series of crisscrossing spirals that relate our left and right sides. They run from our feet to our hips, diagonally across our torso and up to our arms and head. This physical counterbalance — the relationship of one side with the other — forms the basis of my dance technique. With this in mind, I focus on the following elements in my teaching:

  1. The use of the hips as the origin of this physical counterbalance.

  2. The shoulder blades as key in initiating movements and communicating the lead.

  3. The role of the ankles and feet as points for releasing energy, connecting with the floor, and determining the final direction of movements.

This technique is closely related to other disciplines such as biomechanics and aikido. The goal is for students to use the least amount of effort to achieve the maximum potential in movements.

FULL ARTIST BIO

Albano's Story

Originally from the province of Mendoza, Argentina, Albano Goldenberg inherited his love of tango from his grandparents, who organised milongas in their home. He grew up watching them dance and listening to tango on his grandfather's record player.

At 18, he began studying tango, classical and contemporary dance, and theatre. He went on to organise milongas across Mendoza and San Luis, and to direct, choreograph, and perform in a number of tango productions — including Tangoneón, alongside renowned bandoneonist Juan Pablo Jofré Romarion, and his original show NN Tango.

In 2006, he toured Bolivia with María Eugenia Gómez and the Tangastor quintet. In 2007, he performed as a contemporary dancer at the National Vendimia Festival, and in 2008 was invited to Chile's Valparatango Festival as a teacher and guest performer.

That same year, he moved to Buenos Aires to deepen his practice, studying with some of Argentina's most celebrated maestros — including Carlos Gavito, Sabrina and Rubén Veliz, Guillermina Quiroga, "El Pibe" Avellaneda, Gustavo Naveira and Giselle Anne, Julio Balmaceda and Corina de la Rosa, Mariano "Chicho" Frúmboli and Juana Sepúlveda, and Pablo Verón. He also taught at the Carlos Copello School, the Zarasa Studio of Julio Balmaceda and Corina de la Rosa, and the Argentine campus of Pepperdine University.

In 2012, he embarked on his first European tour, giving intensive workshops and performing in France, Germany, and Switzerland. He is co-organiser and teacher at the Milonga Antimufa, and in October and November 2014 made his first tour of Canada.

In 2015, he performed as a dancer in 24M as part of the Cambalache Festival, and danced throughout the full season of the tango show Añoranzas.

In 2016 and 2017, he toured Australia with Cecilia González — performing in Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra, Darwin, and Brisbane — and Europe, with stops in Paris, Sardinia, Lugano, and Zurich. He also toured the United States with Sara Thomsen, performing in Seattle, San Francisco, and Hawaii, before settling in Vancouver, Canada.

In Vancouver, Albano teaches group and private classes, and leads Desde Adentro Tango — a contemporary tango-based dance-theatre collective presenting original work across Canada.

THIS SUNDAY  · VICTORIA BC

Tango From Within

Desde Adentro Tango

Buenos Aires soul meets the contemporary stage.
WHEN

Sunday, July 12 · 9:30 – 10:45 PM

WHERE

The Coda, 751 View St, Victoria BC

AFTER THE SHOW

Milonga (social) · 10:45 PM – 2:00 AM

Step inside Desde Adentro — a contemporary tango-theatre performance where live music and original choreography close the distance between audience and performer. With piano, double bass and bandoneón played live, the room doesn't feel like a theatre so much as a night in Buenos Aires, reimagined in Victoria: raw, cinematic, and avant-garde.

The show's roots go deeper than staging. "This show was created from the deepest vulnerability that humanity could feel," as quoted in the  Penticton Herald. The piece took shape between Vancouver and Buenos Aires in the aftermath of the pandemic's isolation, and for the dancers and musicians who've built it with him, it's become something more than a performance — a way of sitting with disconnection, darkness and loneliness, and finding a version of community on the other side of it.

Expect intimate proximity, contemporary staging, and moments where the audience becomes part of the story. Then stay after the curtain: the night continues with an open milonga until close.
